W&M to host veterans benefits workshop

The William & Mary Veterans Society will host a veterans benefits workshop Nov. 12 in recognition of the Veterans Day holiday. The workshop will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the William & Mary Law School. This event, co-sponored by William & Mary Veterans Benefits Clinic, is free and open to the public.

The workshop will feature a multi-presenter panel including representatives from the W&M Veterans Benefits Clinic at the Law School, VCU's Center for Psychological Services and Development (a partner of the W&M Benefits Clinic), New Horizons Family Counseling Center, W&M representatives from the registrar's and financial aid offices discussing financial aid and benefits.

The W&M Veterans Society, established in 2007, was originally formed as a social and support network for veterans, the Society has since been involved in community service, raising veteran awareness on campus, lobbying efforts, and advocating on behalf of student veterans. For additional information about the society visit http://www.veteransociety.org/home.php.

Preparing to celebrate its first anniversary, the W&M Veterans Benefits Clinic assists veterans with the filing, adjudication and appeal of service-related disability compensation claims. It is the first service learning project of the Virginia Commonwealth University – William & Mary Health Policy and Law Initiative.  William & Mary students and faculty help veterans with their legal needs while students and faculty at VCU’s Center for Psychological Services and Development provide assessment, counseling and referrals to former service members in need of those services.
