Mascot Committee taking official submissions

Mascot Search
Mascot Search The Mascot Committee will begin taking official submissions for ideas for the William & Mary mascot on Wednesday, April 1, 2009.

The Mascot Committee will accept ideas in two ways - an online submission form or a printable, mail-in form. Both can be accessed at the Mascot Committee Web site. Drawings, photographs, videos, or other visual representations of the ideas are encouraged, but not required.

Since announcing the Mascot Search in late February, more than 450 individuals have used email, the mascot search blog, and the mascot search Facebook group to participate in the discussion about possible mascots for W&M. The Mascot Search Web site has received more than 26,000 hits.

"We've received a tremendous response since launching the mascot search just over a month ago," said Susan Evans, member of the mascot search committee and director of web and communication services at William & Mary. "We're encouraged by the enthusiasm of students, faculty and staff, as well as many members of our alumni from far and near."

The official submission period will run from April 1, 2009 - June 30,2009. Complete details and instructions for suggesting a mascot are available on the Mascot Search website. The Mascot Search Committee also includes an active blog and Facebook group. All are invited to participate.
