Business School to host forum on U.S. economy

Faculty of the William and Mary School of Business and the William and Mary School of Law will assess the current economic climate and provide insight into what happened and more importantly where the U.S. economy is headed .

DATE: December 2
TIME: 6:30 – 8 p.m.
PLACE: Brinkley Commons Room, Alan B. Miller Hall, located at the corner of Jamestown Road and Ukrop Way on the William & Mary Campus in Williamsburg, VA.

There will be press availability before and after the event and reporters are invited to participate in the forum as well.

The Mason School of Business faculty, ranked 4th in the country by Princeton Review, will discuss the state of the economy, the economic implications of the health care proposals currently being debated, and share their insights and thoughts on the economic forecast for 2010. Eric Kades of the Law School will provide legal perspectives on these issues.

W&M Business faculty scheduled to participate:

·    John Boschen, Brinkley-Mason Professor in Economics and Finance. Boschen’s areas of expertise include: Measuring the stance of monetary policy;  monetary policy, money markets and business cycles; costs of disinflation; and what starts inflation

·    John Merrick, Richard S. Reynolds Associate Professor of Business; Professor Merrick has split his professional career between academia and Wall Street. He worked for six years at Lehman Brothers in fixed income derivatives research, product management, and proprietary trading. He spent five additional years in global fixed income portfolio management and the hedge fund trade advisory business.  Merricks’s areas of expertise: emerging market debt valuation, trading strategies in deposit rate futures markets and the US Treasury's debt buyback program

·    Deborah Hewitt,  Associate Professor of Economics and Finance, worked as an international economist at the US Treasury and has contributed articles to several business and investment publications including Standard & Poor's Credit Week and Bottom Line, as well as The Wall Street Journal and Barron's. She was a frequent panelist on Wall Street Week with Louis Rukeyser. Her areas of expertise include:  market sector and company valuation; international economics and financial management; and macroeconomic influence on valuations

·    Eric Kades, Vice Dean and Professor of Law at the College of William & mary. His areas of experitise: Constitutional Law--Eminent Domain (Takings); Corporations; Economic Analysis of Law; Economics of Corporate Structure; Land Use and Zoning; Property Law; Real Estate Transactions
