College to host discussion on SWAS
In the spirit of a free exchange of ideas, William & Mary will host a forum Monday afternoon that will address the upcoming Sex Workers Art Show and the issues it raises.
The forum, titled "SWAS: A discussion of the issues," will be held at 3 p.m. in Millington Hall room 211. It will feature campus representatives who bring different views on the performance that is being brought to campus Monday night by student organizers. Susan Grover, a professor at the law school and former director of the College's Office of Equal Opportunity, will moderate the discussion.
"The goal is to offer the campus a broader venue for meaningful, civil discourse about issues raised by this performance," said Interim Vice President for Student Affairs Ginger Ambler. "We want it to be an open conversation on issues such as defining artistic expression, societal and personal health issues related to the sex industry, and the pros and cons of this performance coming to our campus."
In addition to the forum in the afternoon involving campus participants, performers of SWAS will take part in Q&A sessions with audience members following each of the two student-sponsored performances Monday night in the Commonwealth Auditorium at the Sadler Center.
