Marvin Hamlisch to kick off Lively Arts Series

Acclaimed composer and pops artist Marvin Hamlisch will kick off William and Mary's Lively Arts Series with a performance on Friday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. in Phi Beta Kappa Hall.

Hamlisch served as the composer for the musicals "A Chorus Line," "They're Playing Our Song," "The Goodbye Girl" and "Sweet Smell of Success." He was also the composer for films including "The Way We Were," "The Sting" and "Sophie's Choice." A graduate of the Julliard School of Music, Hamlisch has won four Grammies, three Emmys, a Tony, three Golden Globes and the Pulitzer Prize.

The composer's performance kicks off an exciting season for the annual Lively Arts Series. Other performances include Hubbard Street 2 on Oct. 21; Momix on Feb. 5, 2009; Hot 8 Brass Band on March 4, 2009; and the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats on March 31, 2009.

All of the performances begin at 8 p.m. and take place in the College's Phi Beta Kappa Hall. General admission tickets for single performance are $25 or $10 for William and Mary students with a valid I.D. card. Season tickets for all five performances are also available for $100.
