College rolls out University Human Resources System
Staff members of the College will have two opportunities to hear details and ask questions about William and Mary's University Human Resources System Wednesday, Oct. 1. The forums, 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., will be held in the Sadler Center's Commonwealth Auditorium. A third forum will be held in the auditorium in Watermen's Hall at VIMS on Thursday, Oct. 2 at 9 a.m.
"Many people have worked very hard over the last two years to get the new system to this point," said Anna Martin, vice president for administration. "We encourage everyone to come out and learn more about the system's features and look forward to answering everyone's questions and outlining details of this new opportunity for our salaried employees."
The 90 day open enrollment period for the new system begins Friday and closes on January 5, 2009. Salaried employees hired by the College prior to July 1, 2006 that currently hold a "classified" position have the option of enrolling in the new University Human Resources System or remaining with the state's system. Employees hired after July 1, 2006 and any full-time staff members employed under an annual contract are already university employees and automatically covered by this new system.
The University System is a comprehensive system including classification and compensation, benefits, employee relations and training and development. All salaried employees - university and those who remain classified employees - will continue to receive their core benefits through the state. These core benefits include retirement, health insurance, life insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance and workers compensation.
The University Human Resources System is part of the College's expanded authorities granted by the Restructured Higher Education Financial and Administrative Operations Act passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Timothy M. Kaine in May 2006.
