Reveley message regarding strategic planning initiative
President W. Taylor Reveley III sent the following e-mail message to the campus community announcing formation of a committee to produce a new comprehensive strategic plan for the College. —Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community,
It has been 15 years since the university last produced a comprehensive strategic plan. It’s time to take another look at who we are, where we hope to go during the next few years, and how we plan to get there.
I have appointed a committee of faculty, staff, and students to help steer our strategic thinking. This Planning Steering Committee is co-chaired by Provost Geoff Feiss and Vice President Jim Golden. It will work closely with the Board of Visitors and consult widely with the William & Mary community, on campus and off, as we work to produce a plan by next April to present to the Board.
We should challenge ourselves to excel while also taking into account our financial resources and the nature of our competitors. Rather than producing a large document that receives little attention once written and is rarely updated, our planning effort this academic year should simply be “act one” of what becomes thereafter an annual review of the plan. We need a living, evolving roadmap for the university.
A web site has been established to serve as a clearinghouse for information on the planning process. See www.wm.edu/strategicplanning .
Let’s plan together!
Taylor Reveley
