William & Mary is mourning the loss of Alvin Powers Anderson, alum of the college and former member of the Board of Visitors. Anderson ('70, J.D.'72) died Nov. 28, 2008.

During Homecoming 2008, which takes place Oct. 23-26, nine classes from 1963 to 2003 will gather on campus for their class reunions. The Class of 1959 will return in spring 2009 in celebration of their 50th Reunion. In addition to reconnecting with classmates, the reunion classes pull together for another reason: making a difference for the College.

W&M student earns Pickering Foreign Affairs Fellowship

Tuition for Virginia undergraduates to increase $541 at W&M

In-state undergraduate tuition at the College of William and Mary will increase by $541 to $6,090 for the 2008-09 academic year, according to the budget adopted Saturday by the William and Mary Board of Visitors.

Business school's faculty/staff campaign surpasses $500,000 goal

When you've been around as long as the College of William and Mary, it's hard to imagine an unprecedented experience. But the business school changed that on April 25th with its announcement of a history-making faculty and staff campaign for the Mason School of Business programs and their new home, Alan B. Miller Hall.

State capital plan fully funds construction of new School of Education building

The newly adopted state capital plan includes $38.1 million to fully fund construction of the new School of Education building at the College of William and Mary. The statewide bond package, approved Wednesday in Richmond during a special session of the Virginia General Assembly, also includes funding and planning dollars for three other construction projects at William and Mary, including $8 million for a critical project to upgrade the College's heating and cooling systems, $250,000 in pre-planning dollars for the third phase of the Integrated Science Center and more than $500,000 for detailed planning of the renovation of Tucker Hall. The bond bill will now go to Gov. Timothy M. Kaine, who is expected to sign it.

Cannaday presented 2008 JoLynne DeMary Award

W&M announces $10-million initiative to support Gateway program

The Board of Visitors and the College today announced a plan to increase the Gateway William and Mary Endowment to $10 million by year's end. As part of that effort, Rector Michael K. Powell announced a commitment by Board members to provide $1 million, which will serve as a dollar-for-dollar match for money raised by the William and Mary community.

Nancy and Colin Campbell named 2008 Prentis recipients for civic work

Nancy and Colin Campbell have been named the College of William and Mary's 2008 Prentis Award recipients for their civic work in the Williamsburg and College communities. Colin is the president and chief executive officer of the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, and his wife, Nancy, is the chairman emeritus of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The Campbells will receive the honor during a ceremony and reception held in their honor on May 8 at the College.

College admits diverse class for 2012

Building off the strength of its largest, most diverse and academically accomplished applicant pool ever, the College of William and Mary's group of admitted students includes another record number of first-generation College students and a significant increase in students of color.

Three students awarded Goldwater Scholarships

Three College of William and Mary students will continue their undergraduate studies next year with the aid of Goldwater Scholarships, the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation has announced. Heather McConchie, Mark Streer and Daniel Zabransky were among 321 sophomores and juniors nationwide recognized by the foundation. In addition, sophomore Benjamin Brush was awarded an Honorable Mention by the Goldwater Scholarship Committee.

U.S. Sen. Warner named 2008 Andrews Fellow

U.S. Senator John Warner (R-Va.) has been named the 2008 Hunter B. Andrews Fellow in American Politics at the College of William and Mary.

W&M eagle scientists named 2007 Recovery Champions

Law School moves up in U.S. News rankings; Receives record number of applications

The College of William & Mary Law School moved up in this year's U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best graduate programs in the nation. According to the report released Friday, the law school came in this year at 30th, tied with the University of Washington. Last year, the school was ranked at 31st in the nation, tied with Ohio State and the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Musick honored for lifetime opus

Jack Musick, of the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, College of William and Mary, has been awarded the Commonwealth's Lifetime Achievement in Science award for his work on the ecology and conservation of marine fishes and sea turtles. The award was announced by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine and Science Museum of Virginia Director Richard Conti.
