Statement from President Reveley
Earlier this week, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education announced that the federal government was withdrawing earlier guidance requiring public institutions to provide access to public restrooms based on a person’s gender identity. U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos explained: “This is an issue best solved at the state and local level. Schools, communities, and families can find – and in many cases have found – solutions that protect all students.”
At William & Mary our practice has been, and will continue to be, that people are free to use the bathroom for the gender with which they identify.
