Alert update
This message went out to the William & Mary Community following a emergency alert meassage earlier in the day (see below) - Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community –
Earlier this morning you received a TribeAlert about shots being fired on campus (Stadium Drive). I wanted to provide you with some additional information we now have.
At approximately 1:40 a.m. this morning Williamsburg Police notified William & Mary Police that they had heard a short burst of shots in the area of Stadium Dr. Williamsburg Police were able to immediately detain the suspects. William & Mary Police also responded. No additional shots were fired. You already know from the alert that there were no injuries and no property damage. The five suspects involved with this incident are not associated with William & Mary. The shots that were fired (approximately four) were discharged from a handgun and were fired into the air.
There is no known motive beyond discharging the firearm in the air. We continue to investigate this incident. All five suspects have been banned from William & Mary owned, leased or controlled property.
