No 'Islamophobia' at W&M
William & Mary President Taylor Reveley sent the following message to the campus community Dec. 11, 2015 - Ed.
Dear William & Mary Community,
We live and work on our campus within the larger context of the United States and world. Recent terrorist attacks in this country and abroad have led to serious concern about how best to prevent future attacks. In some quarters, such concern has metastasized into “Islamophobia,” with resulting anxiety on the part of American Muslims about their welcome in our society and personal safety.
Against this background, it is well to state the obvious: At William & Mary, Muslim students, faculty and staff are important and valued members of our community and warmly welcome here.
Threatening or intimidating behavior toward anyone or any group on our campus is flatly unacceptable. It’s up to each of us to help ensure that no such behavior takes place in our midst. These days let’s keep an especially keen eye out for the wellbeing of our Muslim compatriots.
