Campus Safety Notice
Dear William & Mary Community,
I wanted you to be aware of an incident that was reported to WMPD this weekend. A W&M student reported that on Friday night, around 10:30 p.m., a suspicious male called and/or motioned to them from a parked vehicle. This occurred in the vicinity of the Green & Gold Village. Thankfully, no one was harmed in this incident.
It is, however, very similar to other incidents that were reported over the summer. In all of the cases the subject is reported as a black male in his 40s who has offered rides to women or waved them toward his parked car. The subject has not exited the vehicle. In most cases, the male is further described as missing some teeth, balding, and speaking in a very southern accent. Vehicle descriptions vary.
None of the reports suggest that the subject exhibited any aggressive behavior, but the circumstances described are certainly suspicious. I encourage you to be aware of your surroundings and to not approach any unknown vehicle in these circumstances. If you have any information about these or other similar incidents please contact William & Mary police immediately at 757-221-4596.
