Alertus desktop notifications
Anna Martin, chair of the emergency management team, sent the following message to the campus community on Jan. 22, 2013 - Ed.
The
College’s mass notification system is adding a new tool, Alertus Desktop
Notifications. In the event of an emergency,
Alertus pushes emergency notifications to the desktop of your computer or
laptop via a full-screen pop-up window that includes details of the
event. Once you click "Acknowledge" the notification will
disappear. Alertus is just one more tool to communicate with our campus,
in addition to campus email, text, landline and cell phone, as well as social
media via the W&M News Facebook
page and W&M News Twitter page.
Roughly 2,000 faculty and staff, along with classroom and PAC lab computers, will automatically have Alertus installed. Other computers, such as Macs, your personal computer or student computers, will have to install Alertus. More information on how to install Alertus can be found on the IT website at http://www.wm.edu/offices/it/announcements/alertus.php
If you are new to the campus and have not yet enrolled in the mass notification system, you may do so through MyWM, Banner self service. Simply click on to personal information and you will find "Update Campus-wide Emergency Phone Numbers.
The Emergency Management Team continues its ongoing effort to enhance safety and security on the William & Mary campus. Our goal is to use multiple channels to create redundancy thereby reaching campus community members through at least one channel in the event of an emergency.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience as we continue to strengthen our emergency preparedness systems on campus.
Anna B. Martin
Vice President for Administration
