Open campus forum on student body size
Last spring, President Reveley established a committee including faculty, administrative and student representatives to consider the impact of various scenarios of growth in the size of our undergraduate student body. The committee has been gathering data on issues of curriculum, student services, finances, housing, admissions, etc. in order to prepare a report for the President. The report will not make recommendations but will detail the ramifications of various scenarios, including no growth as well as growth in various relatively small but nevertheless significant increments. Two themes that have emerged in our preliminary discussions have been the particular “ecology” of our current size and the importance of transparent and open planning in any possible growth.
We believe that it would be valuable as part of our process to gather information from the broader campus community and thus are holding an open campus meeting on Thursday, November 11 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sadler Center, Tidewater A, to hear your perspectives. Final decisions about significant changes to the student body size rest with the Board of Visitors; nevertheless, we want to provide the President with as comprehensive report as possible to inform future discussions on this important issue.
