Political satirist and author Christopher Buckley at William and Mary
The University Center Activities Board (UCAB) brings to campus political satirist and best-selling author Christopher Buckley with "An Evening with Christopher Buckley."
Buckley will share his experiences of Washington D.C. with a satirical twist and provide a comedic look at national politics on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at 8pm in Phi Beta Kappa Hall.
At age 29, Buckley became chief speechwriter to the Vice President of the United States, George H.W. Bush. Since 1989, he has been founder and editor-in-chief of the magazine Forbes FYI.
Buckley has authored eleven books, several of them national best sellers, including Thank You For Smoking, The White House Mess, God Is My Broker, Little Green Men, and No Way To Treat A First Lady. His books have translated into over a dozen languages, including Japanese, Korean, and Russian. Thank You For Smoking was chosen by People magazine and USA Today as one of the ten books of 1994. It was recently adapted into a major motion picture starring Aaron Eckhart, Katie Holmes and William H. Macy.
Buckley has contributed to various national newspapers and magazines, including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Time, US News and World Report, Vanity Fair, Vogue, Esquire, and Washington Monthly. He has published over 50 comic essays in The New Yorker magazine.
"An Evening with Christopher Buckley" is open to William and Mary students, staff and faculty. Tickets are free and can be picked up at the University Center Information Desk with William and Mary ID. Limited tickets may be available to the public on a first come, first serve basis on the evening of April 3 at the Phi Beta Kappa Hall box office starting at 7:30pm.
A free screening of Thank You For Smoking will be available to the William and Mary community on Saturday, March 31 in the University Center Commonwealth Auditorium at 7pm and 10pm.
