Nichol to host public forum on the future of the College Feb. 6
William and Mary President Gene R. Nichol will host a public forum on the future of the College—and discuss his goals and aspirations outlined during his State of the College address—during a conversation with faculty, staff and students on February 6, 2007.
The forum, which is the first of six meetings the President will host on the future of the College, will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday evening in the Commonwealth Auditorium at the University Center. The President will host five similar forums for alumni at events across the country later this year. Dates and locations for those events have not been determined.
During his State of the College address on Jan. 25, 2007, Nichol discussed the thousands of conversations he had during his first 18 months as president regarding what it means to be “great” and “public” and how William and Mary can distinguish itself within that role in the coming years. During his speech, Nichol said increased support for growing research efforts, a commitment to fairly compensate staff members and a continued drive to improve access for those from diverse ethnicities and circumstances are among the challenges to be faced as the College moves forward with its commitment to being “great and public.”
The forum is an opportunity for members of the College community to discuss the speech as part of an ongoing dialogue regarding the future of the College. Nichol will host similar forums for alumni throughout the year.
