Duke lacrosse case topic of law school discussion
The College of William and Mary Law School will host a discussion on “Prosecutorial Abuse and the Duke Lacrosse Case,” Sept. 14 sponsored by the Institute of Bill of Rights Law. Stuart Taylor of the National Journal and author of the upcoming book about the Duke Lacrosse case, Until Proven Innocent, will discuss prosecutorial abuse and the “presumption of guilt” in parts of the Duke community, including the so-called group of 88 faculty who signed a public statement about the alleged incident. The event will be held at the Hennage Auditorium, Colonial Williamsburg from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.
Also participating in the discussion are three
faculty members from Duke Law School, including Jim Coleman, Erwin
Chemerinsky, and Walter Dellinger. Jim Coleman, who was formerly an attorney in private practice and then government service, was
appointed by the Duke president to investigate the alleged incident
with the Duke lacrosse players. Erwin Chemerinsky is a noted Supreme
Court advocate and author of several books on constitutional law.
Walter Dellinger, former Solicitor General of the United States, has
argued numerous cases before the Supreme Court and published articles
on constitutional issues in several scholarly journals.
A book signing by the author will be held at William & Mary Law
School, which is located down the road from Colonial Williamsburg,
shortly following the program.
