William and Mary closed Friday due to inclement weather
Due to the high winds and heavy rain associated with Tropical Storm Ernesto, the College of William and Mary is closed Friday Sept. 1, 2006. The Opening Convocation will not be held today.
Vice President for Student Affairs Sam Sadler sent out the following messages to students, faculty and staff Friday morning:
“In
light of the change in the weather prediction for our area, classes
will not be held today and employees, except for those designated as
essential personnel by their supervisors, are not expected to come to
work. A decision will be made later in the day about whether the
Opening Convocation will be held. Please do not venture out unless it
is absolutely necessary. Winds are expected to reach 50 mph as the
storm begins to move through our area and up to eight inches of rain is
expected.”
"Early this morning we said we would make a decision about Opening
Convocation, and we have. Unfortunately, it is not possible for us to
hold the ceremony today given the weather conditions. We will, however,
preserve this cherished tradition and officially open the academic
session at the Wren Building as early next week as is feasible. When
the new date is confirmed, we will let the campus community know."
