College to offer free business seminar to community
The College of William and Mary’s Technology and Business Center, in conjunction with the Mason School of Business, will present a seminar on the ways readily available and simple technologies may be used to improve businesses, Dec. 6 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Williamsburg Community Building. The seminar is free and hosted by the Economic Development Offices of the City of Williamsburg, York County, and James City County and the Greater Williamsburg Area Chamber and Tourism Alliance. William Bean, director of the Technology and Business Center, will moderate the seminar which will include two sessions, “Improve Business Efficiency and Competitiveness with Excel and Microsoft Office” and “How to Design an Effective Web Site: Factors Affecting Web Use.”
Hector Guerrero and James Bradley, associate professors of business at the Mason School, will lead the discussion on efficiency and competitiveness. Both professors specialize in the areas of operations and information technology and will focus their discussion on ways to sort and filter data, scrubbing and preparing data for analysis and automating data analysis for efficiency. The session on web design will address what makes a site useful and appealing or unfriendly to customers and what changes in technology are on the horizon. This discussion will be lead by Assistant Professor of Business Scott McCoy who specializes in Management Information Systems (MIS).
