20 Years of the W&M Washington Center
The W&M Washington Center celebrated it's 20th anniversary in 2021! Join us in looking back at all of the events, speakers, and videos from our year-long celebration!
For twenty years, the William & Mary Washington Center has served the W&M community with opportunities for students, faculty, staff and alumni. What started as a proposal for establishing a W&M presence in Washington, D.C. in 2000 became reality when our doors opened to the public on January 2, 2001. Since then, we have strived to be W&M's campus in the city for all in the W&M community.
As we have past the half way point of our anniversary, we are excited to continue engaging students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends. We welcome and encourage everyone to celebrate with us throughout 2021! There are many ways to interact with the Center through events, a video series, a memory collection initiative, social media and more. All of these opportunities are open to the whole W&M community. Everyone who donates in 2021 will be mailed a commemorative pin and we look forward to thanking them in person at our 20th Anniversary Celebration in November 2021!
Throughout 2021, the W&M Washington Center will be focusing on four pillars:
Celebrate
Celebrate with us virtually in 2021 with a year of events for the entire W&M community culminating with an in-person celebration on November 4th!
Learn
Tune in each month as we release a collection of videos featuring former students, faculty, and staff in celebration of W&M’s campus in the city. The series is a chronological walk through the W&M Washington Center, starting with the beginning, through the present and looking forward to the future.
Engage
Sign up to volunteer and engage with W&M Washington Center students, alumni and staff! Enlist as a volunteer, sign up to receive monthly updates, or serve as a W&M Washington Center Ambassador.

In the beginning of 2020, the Center asked a few alumni to join us and plan out what the 20th Anniversary could be. We want to thank our Planning Committee for their dedication and thoughtfulness as we met throughout the year to brainstorm and discuss ideas. Everyone has contributed to the planning of this anniversary and will continue to help the Center with its content throughout 2021.
