WMSURE students, staff inspire next generation
For William & Mary Scholars Undergraduate Research Experience (WMSURE) students, community is often the best classroom.
WMSURE students and program staff joined Dr. Terainer Brown from the School of Education for an inaugural “Career Café” event for K-8 students in Newport News, Virginia, on Feb. 24.
Lawyers, doctors, social media managers, professors, and more facilitated career-oriented conversations with students and demystified the world of opportunities before them. Dr. Brown concluded the event with a reading of her new book It's Almost Time for Middle School.
WMSURE Program Coordinator AJ Joseph explained that the Career Café was “truly a soul-filling event.” He added, “It was magical to step back and watch the joy the young students had in engaging with WMSURE students and vice versa.”
Other WMSURE community engagement events are planned for the future. “We’re looking forward to making meaningful moments of connection between WMSURE and the local community,” Joseph said.
