Meet a WMSURE Scholar: Jasmine Ullrich
Jasmine Ullrich is a current sophomore at William & Mary, pursuing a major in Computer Science and a minor in data science. She has been involved with the WMSURE program since her freshman year and has served as a student fellow for the 2022-2023 academic year (as well as a webmaster-in-training!). She also works as a welcome desk attendant for the Campus Living Center and is a Sharpe Scholar.
During the Fall 2022 semester, Jasmine was selected to attend the CMD-IT/ACM Richard Tapia Conference of Diversity in Computing Conference. There, she was able to connect with companies like Google, Unity, Capital One, and many more.
Her experience in the WMSURE program has always been positive, and it continues to serve as a supportive community that encourages her to cultivate her identity beyond academics and take care of herself physically, socially and mentally. Her time in the program has been “holistically reassuring -- I see WMSURE as a place where I will always have a community that celebrates me and encourages me to pursue more than what I may think I’m capable of, and knowing that I have so many people looking out for me has made my time on campus significantly less stressful”.
She says to WMSURE: “I’ve learned so much about the research process and ongoing research, and I hope that soon I’ll be able to begin my own research regarding mental health attitudes/outcomes in underrepresented communities and share this experience with my peers on campus”.
