Background
Before moving to The United States, Shahrzad Mazaheri worked professionally as a costume designer for theatre and movies in Iran for more than 7 years. She started designing costumes in several theatres in DFW area such as DTC, Theatre Three, Undermain Theatre, Amphibian Stage and Stage West. Among her notable national credits are "POTUS, or Behind Every Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive" and "Ms. Holmes and Mrs. Watson, Apt 2B" performing in rep at Trinity Repertory Company, "English" a co-production of Goodman Theatre and Guthrie, "The Persians" at Undermain Theatre, "The Good John Proctor" and " Becky, Nurse of Salem" performing in Rep at Trinity Repertory Company, "Lizzie, The Rock Musical" at Theatre Three, "La Gringa" at American Stage, "Sweeney Todd" at Trinity Repertory Company, "English" at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, "Carmela, Full of Wishes" at Children's Theatre Company, MN, “Sueño” at Trinity Rep. Shahrzad is known for her advocacy against misrepresentation in costume design. She has received the 2021 Design Fellowship for Public Works Dallas. She is the recipient of TxETA 2021 Scholarship. She won the Maguire Ethics Essay Award in 2021 on the subject of ethical issues of misrepresentation and cultural appropriation in movies and theatre. Shahrzad is also the recipient of Bob Hope Scholarship for Excellence in Stage Design from SMU Department of Theatre. She completed her MFA in Stage Design at Southern Methodist University. She also holds an MFA in Textile and Fashion Design.
