Careers and Internships in Sociology

A sociology degree gives people so many options that deciding on a potential career path can be a challenge. Our faculty, along with staff at the Career Center, can help!

Faculty Advice

Your faculty advisors aren't just resources for making sure you meet graduation requirements. Talk to them about your future hopes and plans. They can point you towards specific courses and research opportunities that will strengthen your resume. If your ideal path involves education beyond the B.A., faculty advisors can give you information on graduate programs.

If you have chosen one of the domain-specific concentrations in Sociology, talk to professors teaching the topic-specific elective classes. They can provide yet another perspective.

If you wish to pursue a career such as medicine, law, teaching, or business, one of W&M's pre-professional advisors can help.

Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement

The Office of Career Development & Professional Engagement helps students identify a career path, write an effective resume, and learn how to find a job or internship. Employers connect to our students and alumni through the center's recruiting services.  You can visit the center during walk-in hours, or call them for an appointment. You can also sign into Tribe Careers (tribecareers.wm.edu) to see postings for current students, subscribe to a listserv for weekly e-mails about jobs and internships, and use your free membership to access job and internship databases.

Network

You can stay connected with us and alumni when you join our LinkedIn group. To find Sociology alumni without joining the group, log into your LinkedIn account then go to 'Connections' tab, then click ‘Alumni’ and search by ‘Sociology.’
