Project documents oral histories of the Black community in Williamsburg
A recent Virginia Gazette article featured The Local Black Histories Project, which is organized by the Village Initiative in partnership with William & Mary. The project launched a website last month with oral histories from local residents, films, photos and more, which tells first-hand accounts of the experiences and lives of the Black community.
Sociology professors Amy Quark and Monika Gosin with Theatre and Africana Studies professor Omiyęmi Green formed the research team behind the initiative. For the past two years, more than 40 of their students have been involved with the project.
