Background
As a critical quantitative sociologist, I use quantitative methods to highlight the centrality of racism in U.S. society. I am interested in understanding and deconstructing the ways in which traditional quantitative methods normalize "race differences" and reinforce racism. My dissertation examines the racial segregation in collaboration networks in sociology and discusses how sociologists contribute to racialized knowledge production.
My teaching style is highly interactive, flexible, and emphasizes student collaboration. My courses are very discussion-based, and students get to set the pace of our learning in the course. I am also a big supporter of students teaching students. Therefore, some days I will divide up our course readings and have students present what they have learned to each other. My current courses include Socl 340: Race Relations in US Society and Socl 425: Black in American Society.
