Ebi Doubeni '17
Sharpe Scholar Ebi Doubeni '17 won a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to the Czech Republic. Her experiences as a Sharpe Scholar and Teaching Fellow were part of her experiences that made her such a strong applicant.
Part of the application process was to plan a community engagement project. Doubeni plans to start a girls empowerment group at the high school where she will be placed. In the club she wants to provide a space where girls can discuss their experiences and build a stronger community. Some of the activities planned are cooking lessons where Doubeni can share some of the cuisine she grew up eating, talking about important political issues, engaging in community service, and planning fun events to allow the girls to build stronger bonds with one another.
The application process for Fulbright scholarships is extremely rigorous. Doubeni said, "I will definitely say the aspect of my application that I am most proud of was connecting all of the activities that I did in college to make it applicable to what I plan to do in the Czech Republic and why I was a good candidate for the program. On the surface it seemed like an impossible task because I could not see the direct connection. After thinking about it a little more deeply I was able to see how my experiences could be transposed to the experiences that I will have as an ETA in the Czech Republic."
Congratulations, Ebi!
