Undergraduate Program
The Sharpe Program is a big part of the freshman year of our Scholars. But, once the first year's spring exams are over, our Scholars "graduate" from the program. We love to hear how the Sharpe experience shapes the rest of the W&M experience as well as the lives of our alumni. Once a Sharpie, always a Sharpie!
Coming into the Sharpe program, I was very naïve regarding community-based research. My perspective completely transformed after taking the Sharpe seminar.
I began conducting research on the Leaky STEM pipeline and analyzed causes for the underrepresentation of females in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
My Sharpe Freshmen Seminar, Literacy and Social Change, set me on the path of research and community engagement that I would follow for my entire college career.
My research resulted in the creation of a family literacy program at the Williamsburg-James City County Head Start and the creation of a partnership between the William & Mary and the Head Start.
Daniel Delmonaco, who graduated in December, has been selected to receive William & Mary's 2017 James Monroe Prize in Civic Leadership.
