Background
I am Japanese American and grew up in Yokohama, Japan. I lived in Japan for most of my life but went to Cornell College for my undergraduate degree in Biology. After graduating, I returned to Japan and taught English as a Foreign Language at a private high school for 8 years, and also received a Master of Science degree in TESOL at Temple University, Tokyo campus. I recently moved to Williamsburg with my husband in May 2023.
Why do you want to teach?
I want to teach biology in particular because it was a very influential topic for me to study in high school, almost all of the biology teachers and professors in my life have been inspiring. I want to be able to pour that good back into the next generation.
A Memorable Experience
One of the influential memories for me about biology was in high school when I was learning about cell biology. The beauty of every little thing a cell can do just blew me away, and I have been in love with the subject since.
What has the Noyce Program meant to you?
So far, the Noyce program has meant that I have met some amazing scientists and teachers that inspire me to do better for my students. It has also made it financially plausible to go to William and Mary and learn from the best.
