Maureen Fitzgerald, Associate Professor of Religious Studies, has an MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in American History, with special emphasis on women, religion, and immigration history. She authored the introduction to Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s The Woman’s Bible (Northeastern University Press, 1993) and is author of Habits of Compassion: Irish-Catholic Nuns and the Origins of New York’s Welfare System, 1830-1920 (University of Illinois Press, 2006), among other publications. She teaches courses on American religious history with special emphasis on immigration, race, gender and sexuality, and social movements. She also teaches courses on African-American Religion, Immigration and Religion, American Religious Nationalisms, and Religion and Social Movements. She is currently researching and writing on American Religious Nationalisms.
