In an effort to encourage student scholarship in health policy writing, the Schroeder Center compiles a list of organizations providing writing awards for both undergraduate and graduate students.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion Prevention, screening, surveillance, and/or population-based intervention of chronic diseases, including but
limited to arthritis, asthma, cancer, depression, diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease
Recognized on the Preventing Chronic Disease (PCD) website.  PCD is a peer-reviewed electronic journal.  Winning manuscript will be published in a PCD release with an accompanying editorial, podcast interview, and social media promotion.
Student Paper Competition 1/31/16 Graduate Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP); Health, Health Policy, and Health Services Division Health policy, health and illness, and health services $100 cash award, plaque of recognition, student membership, and conference registration.  Award recipient will present a version of the winning paper at the SSSP Annual Meeting
Best Undergraduate Paper Award 6/15/2016 Undergraduate International Atlantic Economic Society Economic research Finalists receive $100 check and a plaque.  Winner receives $500 and publication in Atlantic Economic Journal.
Francis G. Caro Student Paper Awards 7/1/2016 Undergraduate and graduate University of Massachusetts Boston, Department of Gerontology Aging and life course, including analytic essays on policies and topics important to the field and reports of original empirical research $350 for graduate students;
$300 for undergraduates
Student Paper Competition 12/1/2016 Undergraduate and graduate American Statistical Association; Health Policy Statistics Section (HPSS) Methodological innovation or a creative application of statistical analysis to an issue in health policy $800 (USD) check, a certificate, and a ticket to the Wednesday HPSS Speaker with Lunch roundtable
Annual Essay Contest 12/5/2016 Anyone over the age of 18 as of December Center for Alcohol Policy Students respond to a directed question, which is intended to foster debate, analysis and examination of state alcohol regulation and its implications for U.S. citizens $5,000 -- 1st place
$2,500 -- 2nd place
$1,000 -- 3rd place
Graduate Student Research Award 12/15/2016 Graduate American Society on Aging (ASA) Aging Opportunity to present during a poster session at the Aging in America Conference; ASA student membership; conference registration; and an airline ticket.
