Alan Kennedy is assistant teaching professor of public policy at William & Mary. An attorney, Prof. Kennedy also serves as a judge advocate general in the United States Army Reserve. He was a presidential elector for Biden-Harris in 2020. He focuses on gun policy, free speech, civil rights, and federalism. His gun policy dissertation received the Best Dissertation Award from the University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs and the Outstanding Dissertation Award from the University of Colorado Denver Graduate School. He has been recognized nationally by the American Society for Public Administration as a Founders’ Fellow (2020) and recipient of the Public Integrity Award (2023), and by the American Bar Association as a Top 40 Young Lawyer (2021). Prof. Kennedy earned his B.A. from Yale University, J.D. and M.A. from William & Mary, and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado Denver School of Public Affairs. The views expressed are his own.
