Greetings Psychology Alumni!
We hope you had a wonderful holiday season. Thanks to those of you who attended our Homecoming event in October. We had a wonderful time catching up with you and we hope you enjoyed our tours of ISC 3 as well as our demonstrations. You can see pictures from this year’s homecoming event here.
During the Fall semester, the faculty from the Psychology Department were featured in several news stories about their research. These stories include exciting new work from Professor John Nezlek who published research demonstrating that practicing gratitude can lead to less stress and increased happiness and from Professor Chris Conway whose lab is exploring vicarious fear learning. We are excited to welcome Kris Preacher, PhD, as our alumni speaker in March 2017. Kris is a graduate of our Masters program in 1998 and he has been on faculty at Vanderbilt University for the past 10 years. He primarily studies the statistical techniques that investigators use to test out their hypotheses. Kris is also famous for hosting a website (quantpsy.org) that simplifies complex statistical analyses (saving countless graduate students' lives). We invite you to attend the talk, which will take place on Monday, March 20th, from 12-1pm in the Sadler Center, Tidewater B.
Professor John Nezlek is retiring at the end of the spring 2017 semester. Professor Nezlek began as a faculty member at W&M in 1977. In addition, he has held several illustrious positions at various universities in Europe, one of which was supported by a Fulbright Fellowship. During his career at W&M, he excelled as a world-class researcher and an outstanding teacher, receiving several accolades for both, including the Plumeri Award for Faculty Excellence and the Alumni Teaching Award. He will be missed by all of us.
