Awards
Currently, the Physics Department grants four awards to outstanding graduate students:
- The Roy L. Champion Award is offered annually to a continuing physics graduate student who has demonstrated outstanding research achievement.
- The Rolf G. Winter Teaching Award is offered annually to a graduate student in physics who has demonstrated dedication and excellence in the performance of his or her teaching responsibilities.
- Cheryl Griffiths Tropf Graduate Fellowship in Physics is awarded annual to an advanced graduate student to provide a semester of financial support and a research budget.
- Dr. Betty Orick Sapp Memorial Award provides funds for graduate student travel to conduct research or present research results at conferences or workshops.
- The Henry Krakauer Dissertation Award is offered annually in recognition of an outstanding dissertation by a graduate student in physics.
In addition, the Department and the office of the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research both offer several entrance scholarships and fellowships for outstanding students beginning their graduate studies.
