Trey Mayo to Serve as Next Arts & Sciences Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies
Trey Mayo joins Arts & Sciences’ Office of Graduate Studies as assistant dean for graduate studies. Mayo’s areas of responsibility include graduate student academic progress and degree conferral, coordination of graduate student services and communication, fellowships, grants, and awards.
Trey previously served as the first director of graduate programs for the department of computer science in Virginia Tech’s College of Engineering, establishing a central graduate student services office on the Blacksburg campus.
Before his time at Virginia Tech, Mayo was director of advising at Old Dominion University’s Darden College of Education and Professional Studies from 2016 to 2021, where he established an advising center with the college’s new building.
“Graduate school is a transformational experience for students where they start to generate new knowledge and contribute to the larger body of work in their discipline. I look forward to supporting our students in their graduate education journey at William & Mary,” Mayo said.
“Trey is already a wonderful addition to the team,” said Dean of the Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Suzanne Raitt. “We look forward to all that lies ahead for graduate studies.” Raitt also thanked the search committee and committee chair, Shelly Laurenzo, assistant dean for undergraduate education, for their hard work and thoughtful consideration during the search.
