Public Policy Welcomes COL Will Martin, Army War College Fellow
As part of the Public Policy Program’s partnership with the US Army War College, the program is pleased to welcome COL William “Will” Martin this year. Will is currently enrolled at William & Mary as an Army War College Fellow (AWCF).
The AWCF program enables Army officers to build upon their research and skill sets to prepare them to command at the Brigade level. Part of this military education is to receive Senior Service College credit, which requires an officer to attend a university with the AWCF program.
Will decided to participate in the AWCF program at William & Mary for three reasons. First was because he was previously stationed at Fort Eustis and his wife, Myca, has a family that grew up near the Tidewater area. Second, he wanted to be close to the 93d Signal Brigade at Fort Eustis, which is the unit that he is slated to command after his fellowship year. Will explained that this would help his family since they would only have to move once in a three year period. The third reason is that he and his family absolutely love the Williamsburg area.
Currently, Will is enrolled in classes within the Public Policy Program and the Law School. In general, he hopes that the AWCF experience will enhance his research and leadership skills. Three specific goals he hopes to achieve are strengthening his family's bond and to have fun, to grow as a strategic leader while preparing for future assignments at the Strategic Level, and gain new perspectives from younger generations about the country, government, policies, and Army.
His research this year will focus on addressing the Army’s need to compete for the best talent, especially in high tech fields.
