Faculty Kudos
Dr. Peter McHenry was recently promoted to Professor of Economics. Professor McHenry received his Ph.D. from Yale University and has taught at W&M since 2009, teaching courses in labor economics, labor market policy, the economics of poverty, and introductory microeconomic principles. Professor McHenry’s research has been published in the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Human Resources, and the American Journal of Health Economics, among others. This year, he is serving as the chair of the Faculty Affairs Committee, which, among its many other responsibilities, advises the Dean of Arts and Sciences and the higher administration of the university on a variety of matters relevant to faculty and W&M's academic mission.
Dr. Ranjan Shrestha was recently promoted to Lecturer of Economics. Professor Shrestha, who received his PhD from the Ohio State University, has taught at W&M since 2017. He teaches a variety of courses including Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory. Dr. Shrestha also conducts research in the area of development economics and has collaborated on several projects to assist the Indonesian government. Recently, Dr. Shrestha was an honors thesis advisor to Maddie Helfer, ’22, who is now working as a research assistant at the National Bureau of Economic Research in Cambridge, MA. Dr. Shrestha looks forward to continuing his work with W&M students both in the classroom and on research projects, and this year he has joined the Department’s Committee on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity.
