An exhibition of works by Native American artists curated by Dr. Danielle Moretti-Langholtz is on display in Muscarelle Museum of Art
Shared Ideologies, a new exhibition of selected works by Native American artists from the 1960s to the present, will be open to the public on Sept 1, 2021 in Muscarelle Museum of Art. Shared Ideologies is curated by Dr. Danielle Moretti-Langholtz (Thomasina E. Jordan Director of the American Indian Resource Center, Department of Anthropology, William & Mary). The exhibition will offer visitors an opportunity to engage in a dialogue about the space between history and memory. This exhibition was inspired by the ways in which the activism and ideologies of the Red Power Movement impacted the creation of Native American Art. This shared Ideology, rooted in the American Indian Movement's discourse of resistance, persistence and tradition, encouraged indigenous artists to employ their artistic expertise across multiple genres to challenge the dominant society's erasure of indigenous history and to promote tribal sovereignty.
