2020 Sutlive Book Prize: "The Iranian Metaphysicals: Explorations in Science, Islam, and the Uncanny" by Alireza Doostdar"
The Department of Anthropology is pleased to announce that the 2020 winner of the Sutlive Book Prize for Historical Anthropology is The Iranian Metaphysicals: Explorations in Science, Islam, and the Uncanny by Alireza Doostdar of the University of Chicago Divinity School. We look forward to hosting Prof. Doostdar for a virtual lecture during the Fall 2020 semester. Prof. Doostdar will also serve as a juror for the 2021 prize.
Nominations for the 2021 Sutlive Prize are now being accepted. The prize will be awarded to the best book, in any discipline, that makes use of anthropological perspectives in order to examine historical contexts and/or the role of the past in the present. We are particularly interested in receiving nominations of authors who share the Department of Anthropology’s commitment to struggle with and overcome the white supremacist and colonialist foundations of our discipline and to understand the historical legacies of racism and inequity. Nominated books must be published in English and copyrighted in 2019.
