Please join us in congratulating Samantha Boateng who has just received the 2019 John H. Willis, Jr. Scholarship, which was established by the Willis family to honor “Jack” Willis, a distinguished professor and scholar of modern literature who taught in the English Dept. from 1959 to 2002. Samantha will use the scholarship to help fund her research for an honors thesis about African women writers during the postcolonial period. This summer, she plans to participate in a study-abroad program in Rwanda that focuses on post-genocide reconciliation and learning methods to deal with trauma and forgiveness. She also plans to conduct research in Ghana before returning to William and Mary to write her thesis in the Fall.
