My Presentation at Pi Sigma Alpha National Student Research Conference
Presenting at the 2018 Pi Sigma Alpha National Student Research Conference was an excellent chance to practice my public speaking skills and get feedback on research I had done through my International Security class.
The Friday night reception provided a unique opportunity to speak with professors from other schools and recent graduates who work in DC. It was fascinating to receive their experienced insights on world events and practical advice for soon-to-be graduates. The discussant and audience at my panel gave me thoughtful and constructive criticism that I will use as I continue to perform research in International Relations.
I also attended the panels of my peers after I made my presentation on Saturday and learned about techniques for conducting research, fascinating potential research topics, and internship opportunities. However, my favorite part of the conference was the Sunday professional development sessions. I come from a rural area, and I am unsure about my path after college, so the panelists’ descriptions of their experiences at the “Living and Working in DC” session supplied priceless guidance for my future. This conference developed both my academic and professional character and I hope to attend similar events in the future.
