The paper "Featherlight On-the-Fly False-sharing Detection" by W&M graduate student Shasha Wen, her advisor Professor Xu Liu, and collaborator Milind Chabbi of Baidu Research was selected as the best paper at the 23rd ACM SIGPLAN Annual Symposium on Principles and Practice of Parallel Programming (PPoPP'18). This paper describes a new, practical tool for a well-known performance problem, false sharing in parallel programs.
PPoPP is the premier forum for presentation of reseach in all aspects of parallel software. This year, there are only 28 papers accepted out of 139 submissions (20% acceptance rate). The Best Paper Award is given to a single paper among all submissions.
