Pease Wins the 2014 Bevel Summers Prize
Emily Pease has won the 2014 Bevel Summers Prize for the Short-Short Story at Shenandoah magazine. Her story, “Church Retreat, 1975,” was cited by the judge, Nick Ripatrozone, for its “haunted, finely crafted scene that reverberates into the pasts and futures of all characters involved.” He continues, “Pease masters this short form with phrases and images that make the reader conclude these lives are worthy of a much longer narrative….” The prize includes a $1,000 honorarium and publication in Shenandoah.
