An Odd Coincidence!
In an odd coincidence, Dr. Helen Murphy and Dr. Joshua Puzey both had offices on the same floor of Duke University’s French Family Science Center this past year, and now both are moving to the same second floor hall of William and Mary’s Integrated Science Center to begin two positions as Assistant Professor of Biology. Except within a larger sense of addressing genomic change (in much different organisms), their research programs and labs are unrelated. Dr. Helen Murphy worked previously at W&M as a Visiting Assistant Professor, teaching Evolutionary Biology in 2010; she then worked at Duke University as a research associate looking at the evolutionary genomics of yeast. Dr. Joshua Puzey worked at Duke University as post-doctoral fellow investigating diversity and selection in monkey flowers; he specializes in plant development, biomechanics, and genomics.
Expect to hear more about these new faculty members in the academic year as their research laboratories and programs become established in the fall semester, and as their teaching begins in the spring. In the meantime, we are pleased to welcome them both to the department!
