Professor David Bucci on Campus for Neuroscience Symposium

Professor Bucci delivers keynote address.David J. Bucci presented the keynote address at the Neuroscience Program's 2013 Spring Research Symposium. Professor Bucci is a faculty member in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Dartmouth College.

In his address, "Your Brain on Exercise: Impacts on Cognition, Neural Function, and Mental Health," Bucci described key research areas that his laboratory investigates, the methodologies they have used, and the results they have obtained to date. Among the findings, Professor Bucci described how exercise can impact learning that is not dependent on different brain structures, whether research with animal models translates to humans, and whether exercise can be used as an intervention for some developmental disorders (e.g., Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder). He concluded with some intriguing findings about whether the effects of exercise can be passed down across generations.

While on campus, Professor Bucci met with Professor Josh Burk’s Psychopharmacology class. There he discussed another component of his research regarding neural mechanisms that contribute to schizophrenia. He also had lunch with some undergraduate students and met with faculty during his visit.
