Evan Callaway Elected to Phi Beta Kappa
Evan Callaway has been selected as a Phi Beta Kappa Spring 2012 initiate, the highest academic honor awarded to liberal arts students in the United States. Membership selection is based on intellectual honesty and curiosity, careful scholarship, creativity, good character, and a commitment to the life of the mind. While members of the election committee do consider a candidate's GPA during their deliberations, they give great weight to faculty recommendations to determine the depth and breadth of candidates' academic endeavors.
The breadth of Evan's academic endeavors is an easy case to make as he is a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics, with a specialization in Applied Mathematics. Evan also actively pursued his passion for music while at William & Mary, having earned almost enough credit hours in Music to satisfy the requirements for a major.
Upon graduation, Evan will pursue a career as a software engineer with Business and Engineering Systems in Ashburn, Virginia where he will be using a combination of machine learning and natural language processing to analyze which Twitterers are experts in targeted areas of interest and how their tweets can be leveraged to learn useful information about their fields of expertise.
