Greenhouse open for families
Over 70 people toured Millington Greenhouse during an open house organized by Patty White-Jackson, on 23 September 2011. The crowd was much larger than expected, especially since thunder, lightening, and heavy rain poured outside during the event!
Ms. White-Jackson revived the tradition of having the tour, and it's been 11 years since the last Parents Weekend greenhouse tour was given. Millington's greenhouse was built in the 1970s and is home to hundreds of mostly tropical plants used to support coursework and research in biology. Recently the Anthropology Department's paleo-ethnobotany class, led by visiting assistant professor Shanti Morel-Hart, also toured the greenhouse and found great examples of plant use in tropical cultures.
