Professors to hold book signing
Economics Professors Robert Archibald and David Feldman will sign copies of their book, “Why Does College Cost So Much,” Nov. 20 at the William & Mary Bookstore from 1 – 3 p.m. The book, released by Oxford University Press earlier this month, looks at the rising cost of higher education through the lens of U.S. economic history.
While many blame the rising cost of college tuition on prestige games among universities, gold plated amenities, and bloated administration, the authors present a different point of view. Archibald and Feldman point to similarities between the trajectory of college cost and the cost behavior in many other industries and conclude that forces affecting many industries are more important that those that only affect higher education.
Archibald and Feldman have studied the cost of higher education for more than 10 years and have collaborated on numerous articles. “Why Does College Cost So Much” is the first book authored by the duo.
