8th annual grad research symposium
The College of William and Mary's Eighth Annual Graduate Research Symposium, a two-day, broadly themed academic conference designed to bring together graduate students in different areas of study in the Arts & Sciences, will be held at the Sadler Center on the campus of the William & Mary on March 27 & 28, 2009.
Graduate students from William & Mary and visiting institutions, including Johns Hopkins University and Virginia Tech, will give presentations on current research in fields ranging from American studies to physics. In addition, there will be featured lectures given by Scott Nelson and Mark Forsyth, professors of history and biology, respectively. This symposium is hosted by William & Mary's Graduate Student Association of Arts & Sciences and the College of Arts & Sciences' Office of Graduate Studies and Research. It is free and open to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff, and the general public.

Symposium Highlights:
- 118 total graduate student lectures and poster presentations during the two days
- 30 presenters from 18 visiting institutions, including Johns Hopkins, Virginia Tech, University of Virginia, Duke University, VCU, University of Richmond and University of South Carolina
- $4,200 total given in Awards for Excellence in Scholarship in the Humanities and Social Sciences and in the Natural and Computational Sciences.
- W&M graduate student presentations from each of the 12 A&S graduate departments/programs.
