Laurie McManus (W&M '04) Wins American Brahms Association Award
Laurie
McManus (W&M '04, History and Music), a Ph.D. candidate in musicology at
The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, was recently announced as the
winner of this year's Karl Geiringer Scholarship in Brahms Studies. This
highly competitive award is offered annually by the American Brahms Society to
a single individual. It carries a stipend to support the research and
writing of McManus's dissertation, which analyzes sexual rhetoric in
German music criticism in the late nineteenth century. McManus will be
recognized by the American Brahms Society at their convocation during the
annual meeting of the American Musicological Society and the Society for Music
Theory on November 5 in Indianapolis.
